Craft Meetings

Craft meetings are held four times a year: January, April, July, and October.

Promotions, awards, and other craft business, both IC and OOC will be conducted at these times. Attendance, of course, is advisable, but all meetings are logged and made available to those unable to attend.

Incentive Program

MasterBakers may compete for the coveted Silver Klah Pot Award, which will be conferred upon Masters who have performed their duties in an exceptional manner by remaining active, teaching classes, organizing BakerCraft events and recruiting Apprentices. Aside from the obvious prestige of being awarded such a prize in the presence of one's peers, Silver Klah Pot Masters will be granted knot administration privileges for the period of three rl months and input into Craft decisions, renewable upon continued performance at this level. Masters interested in applying for the incentive program should page of +mail CraftMaster Ofira or CraftMaster Myriana or CraftSecond Keara.

Life Experience

The BakerCraft gives credit for experience earned in kitchens all over Pern. If your character is knotted, has been a cook in his or her IC area for at least six RL months and can provide a letter of recommendation from the area leaders, journeyrank may sometimes be attained without a period of apprenticeship. If you are interested in the credit for life experience program, please page or +mail CraftMaster Ofira or CraftMaster Myriana or CraftSecond Keara.

Other Information

The BakerCraft maintains a web page with much valuable information, including canon foods of Pern, regional specialties and a list of Baker Postings. It is recommended reading for all Bakers.

Training Center

Unlike other Crafts, the BakerCraft does not maintain a central Craft Hall, Bakers being posted to kitchens all over Pern. However, the Baker Craft Training Center, located off the kitchen at Benden Hold, is available for classes for members of the BakerCraft, as well as for non-Bakers. The Center is +watchable and an ideal location for getting together with other Bakers for rp. Some Apprentices may also be assigned to the Training Center for their first posting, where they will be supervised by Journeymen or Masters. Please note - an assignment to the Training Center does not mean that those posted there will receive a Benden Hold knot.

      Apprentice

Characters applying to be apprentices must be a minimum of 12 turns and must be no older than 18 turns. Players interested in apprenticeship should read all of the Baker information available in the +lhelp. Apprenticing requires both an IC and OOC interview with a member of the BakerCraft leadership. A recommendation from a Journeyman or Master is helpful and may sometimes take the place of the IC interview. Apprentices are required to code one object.

Journeyman

Journeyman must ICly have a minimum of eight turns of experience after apprenticing. Exceptional apprentices /may/ advance more quickly. Not all of this experience must be on camera, but your character must be of an age that would make it ICly believable that he or she has been apprenticed for the normal amount of time.

An average of 10 active hours online a week, plus participation in at least two Baker events, are required for promotion to journeyrank. Letters of recommendation from the character's area leaders are helpful, as are logs of rp.

Master

A character must spend a minimum of four turns (12 rl months) as a Journeyman, with a minimum of 10 active hours online a week. In addition, prospective Masters must teach at least one class, organize at least one event, and recruit at least one apprentice. As in the case of promotion to journeyrank, letters of recommendation and logs are helpful.

Student

The BakerCraft is pleased to accept paying students who meet certain IC requirements. Students may be any age from 11 turns and up, and may remain as students for a maximum of 1 turn (3 rl months). Students learn the rudiments of basic cookery that will enable them to return to their homes ready to work in the kitchen. Enrolling as a student /does not/ automatically lead to apprenticeship. In addition, bear in mind that characters enrolling as paying students would have to have some IC means of paying for their lessons. Employed cotholders, children of holders - anyone who would ICly have some marks. Wanderers and drudges would not fit into this category.
